Christian Marriage Counselling
Two of the psychologists in our practice are protestant Christians. While they use techniques from contemporary psychology and marriage counselling theory to assist couples in improving communication skills and enhancing positive interaction, they have an understanding of the faith and values of Christian people who attend therapy.
So while our practice does not provide “Christian Marriage Counselling” as such, many Christian people find it useful to consult a marriage counsellor who shares their Christian world view and understands the central role their faith is likely to play in their understanding of their marriage relationship.
Because faith issues are so integral to a Christian couple's view of the relationship it is usually the case that issues related to the biblical view feature significantly in marital therapy. General issues of forgiveness and commitment, as well as more idiosyncratic issues for which biblical principals are relevant, frequently feature.
It should be noted that Marriage Counselling with a Christian counsellor is not the same as pastoral counselling. A pastor is usually best placed and most expert in bringing biblical wisdom to practical marriage situations. For this reason we strongly encourage people seeking such guidance from wise and trustworthy leaders in your local church.
A Christian marriage counsellors primary area of expertise is not in theological matters, but in assisting a couple shift behavioural and cognitive (thought) patterns in order to improve their relationship.
